appointments
We are delighted to celebrate the promotion of several WIHEA Fellows and
Alumni this year. We know that many more colleagues may have achieved
promotions but have not had the opportunity to share their news with us.

I lead projects that embed innovative TEL approaches
into mainstream teaching and learning activities such as
the development of the Centre for Teacher Education’s
new digital PGCE programme.
Professor Lydia Plath
PROFESSOR (TEACHING FOCUSED)
Department of History
I am proud to be the first Teaching Focused
Professor in the History department.
At the core of my ‘teaching excellence’ was my institutional
impact through my work with the Tackling Racial Inequality
at Warwick Staff Development Programme, and national
impact through leading on recognition of teaching
excellence in my field of American Studies.
Dr David Orrego-Carmona
READER
School of Modern Languages and Cultures
My teaching excellence centres on
strategic curriculum innovation and
technology integration that directly address industry
needs while fostering student employability. I have
led the expansion of the MA Translation and Cultures
programme to develop three new pathways, including
Translation Technologies, created industry-relevant
modules that integrate cutting-edge research findings,
and established strong industry partnerships that provide
authentic learning experiences, resulting in significant
improvements in student satisfaction.

PROFESSOR (TEACHING FOCUSED)
Warwick Business School
I have been promoted to Professor for my
work on Digital Innovation in the field of AI and education,
with a particular focus on AI and feedback provision.

Global Sustainable Development
Since joining in 2021, Romain has
been course leader for all of the
GSD department’s degrees, taught an extensive
range of modules, and fulfilled a range of executive
professional roles in addition to exploring innovative
research ideas at the interface of embodied knowledges
and global futures.
Professor Nikola Chmel
PROFESSOR / HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
Department of Chemistry
I have led educational strategy in
Chemistry as Director of Education and
Deputy Head (Education), overseeing a major overhaul
of the chemistry curriculum. I have also contributed to
the development of a level 7 apprenticeship standard,
leading to the launch of new apprenticeship courses
nationally, as well as contributing to the development
of the first wave of the new STEM Connect MSc
courses at Warwick.
Gill Frigerio
READER (TEACHING FOCUSED)
Centre for Lifelong Learning
I have been promoted to Reader on the
teaching focused pathway. My impact has
been on the professional training of career development
practitioners, which requires integration of theory,
policy, and practice to form our ‘signature pedagogy’.
I co-authored a new textbook which is now being used
internationally to train people for careers work.
